Fast Home Birth in Irving, Texas
Jaleecia and Trenton had a beautiful, incredibly emotional home birth in Irving, Texas alongside their all-black birth team. I am honored to share her birth story below in her own words.
From Jaleecia: I was nauseous all day. Contractions were hitting different. They were so much tighter and harder than before. I made sure to remind myself of my affirmations. “I am patient and prepared for His perfect timing” As the anticipation grew for what was to come I didn’t want to say “I can’t do it” because I didn’t want my body to hear that and believe it. I knew if I lost my patience it would not get her here any faster. At 10:30 PM, contractions were about every 5 minutes and I looked at Trent and said “Babe. I don’t know how much longer, but this is it.” Contractions kept coming. No breaks in between. I kept telling myself breathe. I said it before and I’ll say it again, my husband Trent was the MVP! He set the tone. Burned Palo Santo. Dimmed the lights. Lit some candles. Ran me a bath. Turned on my playlist. Gave me cuddles and kisses and whispered affirmations the entire time.
I decided to lay in bed in a side lying lunge position. My doula, Eve, arrived and got in bed with me. I threw up again, then I felt like I just need to get on the floor. I labored on the floor resting on my birth ball. I kept saying to myself that I needed to be prepared for whatever God and Nova had planned. I felt my doula rubbing my back and I kept reminding myself “you’re surrounded by love.” I threw up one last time and Trent fed me some peanut butter and orange juice to keep my energy up. When I got up from the floor Trent held me up again as I felt her descending and my cervix blooming like a flower.
Then I went to the toilet. I kept feeling like I had to poop. But it just wouldn’t come out. Everyone kept reassuring me that it was my baby. Eve told me to turn around on the toilet and then my midwife, Ashley Greene showed up and did my blood pressure and fetal heart times. Trent kissed my neck then whispered a joke in my ear. He knew his love and humor would keep me calm and present. I reached down and felt a bubble. Then my water broke. A huge slosh! We had to get off of the toilet and for the first time I didn’t think I could move. My midwife told me I could and Trent got me up and walked me to the bed.
The intensity changed from that moment. It felt like my body was taking over and Nova was birthing herself. I didn’t feel the ring of fire. But as soon as I laid down, the room noticed I was crowning and I felt God saying “surrender, we are going to squeeze this baby out.” At 2:12 AM, after 2-3 pushes and about 4 minutes, our young Queen was caught by her daddy and laid on my chest as peaceful as can be.
I cried and felt so proud of myself. My all-black birth team felt the pride and reverence of this moment. I did it!
